The Community School Cutthroats made a strong showing at the 3A District Tennis Championships Friday afternoon on the courts in Sun Valley. As a result, the host team will send five singles players and four doubles teams to the State Tournament in Caldwell.
The Idaho High School State 3A Championships will be held May 20-21 at Vallivue High School.
Community School student Peter Morawitz bested his brother Keene Morawitz in the finals of the Boys Singles, 6-4, 7-5, as both players earned their place in the State Championships.
In front of a boisterous crowd, Community School student Barrett Ott defeated the second seeded Zach Roselle of Sugar Salem to capture the third and final Boys Singles spot in the State Tournament.
Community School’s Erin Smith topped her teammate Olivia Ott to capture the Girls Singles District Championship. Both girls will represent the Cutthroats at State.
Community School’s Dan Dufur and Henry Everitt beat their teammates Gavin Blair and Hayden Baker 6-1, 6-3, and both of these Cutthroat Boys Doubles teams will advance to the State Tournament.
Meanwhile, the Sun Valley school’s Emma Coulthard and Tara Ware punched their ticket to State by capturing second place in the Girls Doubles Championship.
Emily Siegel and Kiran Merchant secured the final state berth by defeating schoolmates Autumn Fleutsch and Todd Yu for third place in the Mixed Doubles Championship, securing the final state berth.
