The Texan country-punk band the Vandoliers will launch their new album “Life Behind Bars” on Friday, June 27, at the Mountain Village Resort in Stanley.

The family-friendly concert starts at 6 p.m. in the Velvet Falls Dance Hall. It will also feature Lost Ox and Adeem the Artist. Tickets are available at https://www.mountainvillage.com/event/vandoliers/.

The Dallas-based group was formed in 2015, fusing punk and country with a mix of instruments that includes trumpet, pedal steel, spoons, fiddle and banjo. Shortly afterwards, they recorded their debut album “Ameri-Kinda.” They recorded their follow-up album, “The Native,” in the same album where willie Nelson made “Red Headed Stranger.”

The Vandoliers came to prominence when they wore dresses on stage at a show in a small Tennessee town to protest the state’s drag ban on the day the Tennessee governor signed it into law. Pictures from the show went viral, even landing on the Rachel Maddow show.

That show had a profound impact on bandleader Jenni Rose. She had worn a dress before but never in public. And, she said, “once the entire world saw it,” I wrote in my journal, “I think I’m trans.”

The new album, which comes out the same day the band plays Stanley, details her journey through addiction and gender dysphoria, which Rose explored in a Rolling Stone interview.

The album—the Vandoliers’ fifth--also features the latest single, “Your Picture,” which explores the yearning of being close to a loved one. The music video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb-GhcYgLPg.
