“America’s most watched symphony orchestra conductor”--Amy Andersson—will debut her new film, “Women Warriors: The Voices of Change” later this month at the Alturas Institute’s Conversations with Exceptional Women.
The 70-minute film, produced by Andersson and scored by eight women composers, is a silent documentary featuring images of courageous activists from around the world who have used their voices to create social, political and environmental change. Andersson conducted the live symphonic orchestra that accompanied the film when it premiered at Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York City in 2019.
The once-live production will debut for the first time as a film at Magic Lantern Cinema in Ketchum on Aug. 31. Andersson will offer remarks before the showing of the film that afternoon, and will speak at the Conversations with Exceptional Women conference the morning of Sept. 1.
“Maestro Amy Andersson’s participation in our event represents a very rare opportunity for symphony goers and others who prize unique talent in the world of music and film to hear her remarks at the world premiere of her film,” said Dr. David Adler, president of The Alturas Institute.
Adler added that tickets are selling fast, but there remain opportunities to purchase tickets to attend a VIP reception and dinner where patrons can meet, converse and dine with conference speakers, including Andersson.
As a conductor, Andersson has made appearances with symphonies from around the world, and has tackled a wide range of work, from Broadway musicals to video game scores. Most recently, she is the founder of Orchestra Moderne NYC, an electric ensemble comprised of New York's best musicians, who together create music that speaks to the social issues of the day.
It was her appearances on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, CBS Moring News, CBS and in the Wall Street Journal that led music critic Norman Lebrecht to call her “America’s most watched symphony orchestra conductor.”
This is the Alturas Institute’s 7th annual Conversations with Exceptional Women. This year’s event, dubbed “Women of Courage,” will feature Pulitzer Prize winners, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, acclaimed authors, and lawyer Clara Spera, who will receive a posthumous award for her grandmother, the legendary Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
This is a two-day event spanning Tuesday, Aug. 31, and Wednesday, Sept. 1. It will be held at the Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum. Visit www.alturasinstitute.com to purchase tickets and learn more about the speakers. Admission to “Women Warriors: The Voices of Change” is included with the purchase of a conference ticket.
