Load up on fresh fall produce to get through the winter, sit in on a food preservation workshop and dance to the country sounds of The Hurdy Gurdy Girls at today’s Root Sellers festival fall gathering.
The pop-up farmers market and community celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today—Saturday, Nov. 15--at The Sage School Barn in Hailey’s Quigley Canyon.
“Root Sellers is a day of celebration and preparation,” said Amy Mattias, the director of Future Roots, which is organizing the event. “We’re gathering to honor another fantastic harvest season with music, dancing, and good food and to stock our pantries for the winter. This event helps individuals and families enjoy local food on their plates all year long.”
Southern Idaho producers will offer bulk quantities of produce, frozen meats, grains, dried herbs, fruit preserves and value-added goods. Vendors include Agrarian Harvest, Drinkers of the Wind Farm, King’s Crown Organic Farm, Koehn Trout Farms, Squash Blossom Farm, and Mason Family Provisions.
Brooke Bonner of Drinkers of the Wind Farm will teach a Fermenting the Harvest workshop showing how to create sauerkraut and other fermented foods from 10 to 11 a.m. Amanda Moulton, who teaches cooking classes at the Bloom Community Center will teach ways to preserve apples from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Laura Apshaga will teach how to turn leftover bones into Broths & Stock from 12:45 to 2 p.m.

The Wylde Beet, La Parrilla, NourishMe and On the LAM will have food for sale.
