The new award-winning documentary on Glen Canyon—“What the River Knows”--will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at The Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum.

The show, presented by Idaho Rivers United and Project Big Wood, will include a post-film panel discussion with executive directors Greg McReynolds of Idaho Rivers United and Eric Balken of Glen Canyon Institute.

"When we watch what is happening on the Colorado, we see a grim outline for the future of the Snake River," said McReynolds. "Rivers are migration corridors, they are ecosystems, they are habitat. If we reduce rivers to water for consumption, we give up on our understanding that rivers are alive.”

As the water level of Lake Powell drops, a lost Eden has emerged as Glen Canyon comes back to life, revealing the consequences of past mistakes and the potential for a new path forward for the Colorado River. The film examines the urgent need to rethink water management in the West, along with an opportunity to restore a stunning landscape and flooded ancestral homeland.

“Glen Canyon is the heart of the Colorado River," said Balken. "From outdated infrastructure to ecological restoration, this landscape is emblematic of today's management challenges and the story of water in the West. A huge thanks to Idaho Rivers United and Project Big Wood for helping us bring this conversation to Ketchum.”

Tickets are $17 with a $3 convenience fee, available at https://www.theargyros.org/.
