STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAREN BOSSICK The Papoose Club hung out a banner revealing its new name. And its cookie tenders doled out the club’s famous holiday cookies from new sneeze guard cookie cases this weekend as the club held its annual Holiday Bazaar at Hemingway STEAM School. Hundreds of people entered the doors past a new banner touting “5B Kids Fund”—the club’s new moniker--sandwiched in between the traditional red Papoose Club banners. Inside, they found plenty of familiar booths, such as Marie Stewart’s decorative hats and pants made with recycled fabric from South America and Heather Black’s landscape photographs.

And they found some new items, as well. Pocatello artist Wendy Vaughn had a line of lamps in the shapes of Rocket Men and other fantastical creates that she had created out of plumbing parts. Sarita Morgan, who grew up in the Wood River Valley but now lives in Spokane, offered a line of artisan handbags and accessories sporting the crescent moon, cactus, mountains even snake designs. Russ McAnulty, of Kimberly, had a lineup of banks he’d created out of antique 1932 post office boxes from Melba, along with wooden flour scoops and herb stripers, rocking chairs and other woodcraft. Creative Illumination’s Lisa Crawford offered lamps made using antique sewing machines, children’s toy dump trucks, old-fashioned mixers and more. And Ketchum artist Brenda Spackman offered a line of whimsical posters depicting Sun Valley scenes that she said made great Christmas gifts. Money raised at the bazaar will be used to fund various youth projects in the Wood River Valley.
